INSOMNIA
I have to get up for work in 3.5ish hours. I CAN’T SLEEP! This is so frustrating. I’m the narcolept! I sleep EVERYWHERE, ANY TIME, ANY OCCASION. I got ready for bed at 11:30, already thinking that it was a little late. I read for about 45 minutes. Lay awake for 30 minutes. Noodled around the internet for another hour. Lost two Literati games. It’s been 2 hours since I first tried to go to sleep and I am still AWAKE. AHHHHH.
I tried everything that usually works. I thought about my to-do list. I prayed. I moped. I practiced deep breathing. NOTHING. Why is it on the first day that I really need to sleep, I can’t! I FELL ASLEEP DURING MY FRIEND’S WEDDING CEREMONY last year but in the middle of the night when I have to get up EARLY tomorrow (later today) I am wide awake. Heaven help my patients tomorrow.

Slumdog Millionaire
I saw Slumdog Millionaire this afternoon. It was a really good movie. If this sounds stilted, it’s because I’m not quite sure how I feel after seeing it. Without a doubt it’s a very well made film – the acting, music, plot, etc. all come together beautifully. It broke my heart, a little bit. The acting, especially from the children, is excellent. I’m glad we saw SM versus any of the other movies out right now. It makes everything else seem extra shallow. Except maybe Valkyrie. And Doubt. OK. It makes a few other films seem extra shallow.
Go see it!

Merry Christmas!
I celebrated by sleeping in.
As expected, nothing was open in the area besides Asian restaurants, so when Kristychoo & Graque wanted to meet up, we ended up going to a dessert cafe in San Mateo: Golden Island. Then they gave us the check before we were really ready to go, so we went to the other dessert cafe in San Mateo: Dessert Republic. I liked my spam & egg sandwich a lot!
Unpacking update: all the boxes I shipped home have been opened! I recycled all the boxes. Of course, now everything that was in the boxes is now sitting on the floor in piles, but soon it will go to my storage unit and into the closet, etc. I’d say I’m at 50%.
Today’s been very chill, and it almost feels like Thanksgiving because I’ve been mentally thanking God for a lot of things in my life. Then I capped it off by bickering with my mom about whether I just haven’t “learned” to eat green onions or if I’m finally old enough to just NOT LIKE something. I don’t like green onions. I don’t think that takes away my grown up status. I’m curious, and also, I want comments, so what are things you really don’t like to eat?
Jeanne: salad dressing, avocado, green onion, cilantro, parsley (garnish in general), raw onion, soup

Blog changes
I’ve updated the “About” and changed the title to reflect a new period in the blog. The title is related to me wishing I had the ability to shrink down my stuff so it’ll fit into tiny spaces better. As it is I’ve unpacked approximately 5% and am sitting on my bed in the only clear space left. I’ll try to blog regularly again.
Returning Home
Garrpaccio showed friendship above and beyond the call of duty when he agreed to fly up and drive down south with me. This was also before we realized that we had to travel in the worst snow the Pacific Northwest has seen in 30 years. THANKS WEATHER. I did my part to prepare by shipping multiple boxes to my parents and trying to mentally tetris my belongings into the car so that there would be space for GP and his cameras.
We squeezed in a quick trip to Portland and spent a long chunk of time at Powell’s Books before having dinner with Sherry & Kat at Henry’s and going on a subsequent adventure including Papa Haydn and the Potato Champion. Pictures will be up when I get my memory card back from O, who is going on an Asian adventure!
The drive back was endless and my stuff is ridiculous. THE END.
No wait, driving in snow stinks. Also, driving on ice is worse. Also, chains are useful so I won’t gripe about them being non-returnable anymore. Although I do have an extra set now so if anyone wants to buy them they are LaClede 1138 and my tires are 215/60R/15.
I am still not sure how this “living at home” business will work. I haven’t spent more than a week here since I left for college seven point five years ago. I don’t know if we’ll all survive. So far I’ve regressed to teenagerdom multiple times because well, my parents still treat me like a teenager. The crucial differences now are…I don’t know, it’s hard to think of any when I’m sitting on my childhood bed surrounded by childhood mementos and stacks of boxes and bags. Unpacking is not…going well.

Time to start packing…
(This obviously should have been posted much earlier. I’ll try to post more regularly from now on.)
I had a good weekend. Valerie came up to visit from San Diego! I picked her up from the airport and we went to Tulalip. I did get buyer’s remorse, after all, and needed to do some returning. We managed to walk through the whole center without doing much damage to our wallets, and I managed to get one gift! We drove allll the way back to Lakewood and stopped at Hooter’s for some take out wings, which we ate while watching a couple of movies. I thought Planet B-boy was going to be kind of a joke, but it was really well done. I am, as ever, in awe of people with such impressive physical coordination. Gracie…oh I really thought I’d love it given my penchant for cheesy sports movies…but no. Every time her eyes welled up and she stomped away I screamed “SUCK IT UP!” at the screen.
We stayed up (okay I stayed up) wayyyy too late and had to get up early to get to Ten Pachi on time. I wanted one more hair cut before heading back south and since I’d already made the appointment when Val decided to visit, she gamely agreed to go for a trim too.
Before! (pictures later once I find the card reader)
After! (pictures later once I find the card reader)
We headed to University Place (nice outdoor mall area) to meet up with the local Cal alumni at The Ram for the UDub-Cal game. It was boring. I mean, YAY WE WON!!!! But it was dull dull dull. It was fun to see Alexa though. We wandered around University place for a couple of hours, then drove to Fremont for dinner. We ended up at Jai Thai, a restaurant that Campbell had previously recommended. Alex & Alexa met us there, and we enjoyed the food a lot. The chairs sucked though. Since it was right next to Simply Desserts, I bought us a cookie that we enjoyed as we waited for our food. We also took some cake home for later. (A little dry with greasy frosting, definitely not as good as the first time). We walked off some of the food by climbing up to see the Fremont Troll, a slightly scary proposition at night since the streetlights immediately surrounding it were out and it cast a lot of eerie shadows under the bridge.
Sunday was a day of glorious sleeping in, and I don’t think we really got up until almost noon. We took a stroll around the VA so I could show Val the grounds, and then we picked up her luggage and drove northward again. We stopped by Southcenter so she could get her ears double pierced at Claire’s (some “badass” 15 year old boy was there with his mom and she picked out the biggest CZ studs for his ears while they waited for the girl to finish with Val. He watched Val get her ears pierced and got a veeeery uncertain expression on his face. Good luck with your bling, tough guy!)
It was a very chill weekend. We went to three different malls, ate a lot of terribly bad for you things (our Saturday lunch consisted of chips, bacon, cheese, and beer), and I loved every minute. Thanks for coming!

The end is in sight!
The end I’m referring to is the end of this rotation…because boards are OVER.
I missed our class. The four of us Tacoma people and two Portland people took it at the Hillsboro Pacific testing site which was at a church. The test site was fine but in BFE…it took forever to get there. It was a little weird to be surrounded by all the Pacific students, but we all got through it.
We pricelined (of course!) our hotel and spent two nights at the Marriott in Beaverton. It was pretty good for what we needed and it helped that the price was great. (More than 50% off the hotel regular price!) We also got some sushi at the Marine Polis Sushiland (exact title) and also saw a leeeetle bit more than generally preferred when you’re about to eat dinner. I won’t write about it here. OR WILL I? Not today anyway.
We tried to take a celebratory jumping shot but the memo didn’t get to everyone. I titled this one: FAIL.

Better shot!

I’m sad to leave. Didn’t we just get settled in? Well, there’s a little more fun to be had before the moving actually happens. =)
